Tacos de Carne Asada (Grilled Beef Tacos – Home Pan Version)

Carne Asada means “grilled meat” in Spanish. In Mexico, it is usually cooked over charcoal. It is one of the most popular taco fillings, especially in northern Mexico. Here we make a simple pan version at home. It is always served in small corn tortillas with onion, cilantro and lime.

Ingredients

  • 400 g flank steak or beef strips
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp ground cumin

For serving:

  • 6 small corn tortillas
  • ½ white onion, finely chopped
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Slice beef into thin strips.
  2. Mix lime juice, salt, pepper and cumin.
  3. Rub mixture into beef and let rest 10 minutes.
  4. Heat oil in a pan over high heat.
  5. Add beef in one layer. Cook 3-4 minutes without moving.
  6. Turn and cook 2-3 minutes more until browned but still juicy.
  7. Warm tortillas in a dry pan for 30 seconds per side.
  8. Place beef inside tortillas.
  9. Add onion and cilantro on top.
  10. Serve with lime wedges.
