
Milanesa a la Napolitana is one of the most popular home dishes in Argentina. It is a breaded beef cutlet topped with tomato sauce, ham and melted cheese. Despite the name, it is not from Naples. It was created in Buenos Aires and became a national favorite.
It is usually served with mashed potatoes or fries.

Ingredients
- 2 thin beef steaks (about 400 g total)
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp oil (for frying)
For topping:
- 150 ml tomato sauce
- 2 slices ham
- 150 g mozzarella cheese
For serving:
- Mashed potatoes or fries
Instructions
- Season the beef with salt and pepper.
- Beat eggs in a bowl. Place breadcrumbs in another bowl.
- Dip each steak into egg, then into breadcrumbs. Press gently so crumbs stick well.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Fry the breaded steaks about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Place fried steaks on a baking tray.
- Spread tomato sauce on top. Add ham and mozzarella.
- Bake at 180°C for about 10 minutes until cheese melts.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or fries.
