Tinginys (Lithuanian No-Bake Chocolate Biscuit Cake)

Tinginys means “lazy cake” in Lithuanian. It is one of the most popular homemade desserts in Lithuania. It is made from crushed biscuits mixed with cocoa and condensed milk, then chilled until firm. Almost every Lithuanian family has their own version.

Ingredients

  • 400 g plain tea biscuits (simple dry biscuits)
  • 120 g butter
  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 can (395 g) sweetened condensed milk

Optional (some families add):

  • Handful of chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Break biscuits into small uneven pieces by hand. Do not crush into powder.
  2. In a pot, melt butter over low heat.
  3. Add cocoa powder and mix until smooth.
  4. Remove from heat and add condensed milk. Mix well until fully combined.
  5. Add broken biscuits and mix until all pieces are coated.
  6. Place mixture onto baking paper and shape into a log using your hands.
  7. Wrap tightly and refrigerate at least 2 hours until firm.
  8. Slice into thick pieces and serve cold.
