
Empanadas are one of the most iconic foods in Argentina. They are eaten at home, in bakeries and during gatherings. The most traditional version is filled with beef, onion and spices.

Ingredients
- 8 ready-made empanada discs (or small pie pastry circles, about 12 cm)
- 400 g minced beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 boiled egg, chopped
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 egg (for brushing)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add onion and cook 3-4 minutes until soft.
- Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
- Add minced beef. Cook until fully browned. Break it apart while cooking.
- Add paprika, cumin, salt and pepper. Mix well.
- Remove from heat and let cool 10 minutes.
- Stir in chopped boiled egg.
- Preheat oven to 190°C.
- Place one spoon of filling in the center of each pastry disc.
- Fold in half to form a half-moon shape.
- Press edges with fingers, then seal with a fork.
- Brush tops with beaten egg.
- Bake for about 20 minutes until golden.
